چکیده

Abstract The authors investigated the interbasin interactions between Pacific and Atlantic Oceans depending on phase relationship of decadal oscillation (PDO)/Atlantic multidecadal (AMO) based observations idealized model experiments. When AMO PDO are in (i.e., +PDO/+AMO or ?PDO/?AMO), Ocean regulates SST anomalies equatorial with altering Walker circulation. During this period, there is a negative SST–precipitation where atmosphere forces ocean. In contrast, when they out either +PDO/?AMO ?PDO/+AMO), influences by modifying circulation, resulting westward shift center convective forcing compared to that during an in-phase PDO/AMO. positive dominant ocean atmosphere. To verify result, we conducted pacemaker experiments using Nanjing University Information Science Technology Earth System Model version 3 (NESM3). results supported our findings obtained from observations. We infer characteristics Pacific–Atlantic depend whether phases phase.

Decadal Variability in the Terrestrial Carbon Budget Caused by the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation

The terrestrial carbon dioxide (CO2) budget interacts with the Earth’s climate system on diurnal to centennial and longer time scales, making it critical for climatic prediction and stabilization. Atmospheric observations and global syntheses of CO2 data indicate that the terrestrial biosphere is one the major sources of interannual variability, but the underlying mechanisms operating on differ...

Western tropical Pacific multidecadal variability forced by the Atlantic multidecadal oscillation

Observational analysis suggests that the western tropical Pacific (WTP) sea surface temperature (SST) shows predominant variability over multidecadal time scales, which is unlikely to be explained by the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation. Here we show that this variability is largely explained by the remote Atlantic multidecadal oscillation (AMO). A suite of Atlantic Pacemaker experiments succes...

Impact of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation on North Pacific climate variability

[1] In this paper, we found that the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) can contribute to the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), especially the component of the PDO that is linearly independent of El Niño and the Southern Oscillation (ENSO), i.e. the North Pacific Multidecadal Oscillation (NPMO), and the associated Pacific/North America (PNA) pattern. Using a hybrid version of the GFDL CM2...

Climate impacts of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation

[1] The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) is a near-global scale mode of observed multidecadal climate variability with alternating warm and cool phases over large parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Many prominent examples of regional multidecadal climate variability have been related to the AMO, such as North Eastern Brazilian and African Sahel rainfall, Atlantic hurricanes and North Amer...

The Pacific Decadal Oscillation and Pacific Salmon Production

Retrospective analyses of Pacific Basin climate records highlight the existence of a pan-Pacific interdecadal climate oscillation. We find strong evidence for coherent patterns of interdecadal variability in Pacific winds, sea level pressures, and upper ocean temperatures. Collectively, the ocean-atmosphere pattern of variability has been labeled the “Pacific Decadal Oscillation”, or PDO. An in...
